Question: Why do I feel like I'm about to throw up (and have actually thrown up once) after swallowing semen? Is it a physical thing or psychological thing that maybe I can get over somehow?

Answer: There are three basic options you have when performing oral sex on a man:

1) Allow the man to ejaculate in your mouth and swallow the ejaculatory fluid
2) Allow the man to ejaculate in your mouth and spit out the ejaculatory fluid
3) Remove the penis from your mouth before he ejaculates and let him ejaculate elsewhere

Which option you pick will depend on your level of comfort and what your preference is.

Some people choose not to swallow semen because they don't like the taste or texture. Others worry about gagging and vomiting, which is common. The gag reflex is pretty common. Some people gag at just the thought of having a penis in their mouth, let alone having semen spurt out of it. If this resonates with you, it may be a psychological issue, in which case, speaking with a counselor may help you (if you want to "overcome" or "get over" this). However, your feeling of needing/wanting to vomit could also be a physiological response. Some people do have what's called a short palate, which means that they have a difficult time placing objects deep into their mouths. A doctor would be able to evaluate this for you.
