QUESTION

I would like to know if there are any benefits to swallowing sperm during sex or is it unsafe in any way. Exactly what is in the substance anyway. Thank you.

This question was submitted to the HSAB by an actual iFriends user, and answered for recent publication.

ANSWER

Answered by Melissa BEE

Hello, Thank you for your question. Sperm and the fluids contributed by the Seminal Vesicles, the Prostate Gland and Cowpers Glands make up SEMEN.

Sperm accounts for only about 1% of the volume of semen. Semen contains water, mucus, sugar (fructose) acids and bases. These activate and nourish sperm. The bases protect the sperm against the acid environment of the vagina.

Typical ejaculate contain 200-400 million sperm, and ranges in volume from 5 millilitres to 20 millilitres (a teaspoon to a tablespoon). The quantity of semen decreases with age and frequency of ejaculation.

Best Wishes,

Melissa BEE
